How to Replace the Jeep Cherokee “Teardrop” Key Fob Battery (2014-2021)Replacing this key fob battery is easy once you have the right information and tools. Scroll down to follow the video tutorial or keep reading for a step-by-step guide on Jeep Cherokee key fob battery replacement. What you will need:
- 1x CR2032 battery
- Small flathead screwdriver
Step 1First, look at the bottom of the device where the keyring attaches. Can you find the seam between the two halves of the key fob?
Step 2Now, take your small flathead screwdriver and carefully insert it into the seam, wiggling as you push. Once the tool is firmly inside, turn it like a key until the two halves of the device separate. If it doesn’t open up, use your fingers to separate it into two parts.
Step 3Set aside the front cover of the key fob. Now, gently remove the rubber piece (buttons) by simply lifting it up. Set it aside.
Step 4Next, use your finger or screwdriver to lift the old battery out of its housing gently. Now you can replace it.
Step 5Take your new battery (CR2032) and insert it into place with the positive side down. It has to be a CR2032 for the key fob to work.
Step 6Now, just set the rubber buttons back on top as it was and click the front piece of plastic back into place. That’s all it takes. You just changed the battery at home and saved yourself a trip to the dealership. Nice work! If you follow the steps on this Jeep Cherokee key fob battery replacement correctly, you will have a new working key fob.
