Honda Pilot Key Fob Battery Replacement Guide (2016 – Present) Smart Key
This is the fob used in model years 2016 -2020 and the battery is very quick to replace. It will take you just a few minutes. Scroll down for my video, or keep reading to see a full description of how to change the Honda Pilot key battery quickly.
You need only one item:
an CR 2032 battery
How to change the battery in a Honda Pilot key
Total Time: 2 minutes
1. Depress button, extract valet key
Flip the key, find and press down the button behind the fob key. Press down the button and pull out the valet key.
2. Split key fob using valet key
Now put the valet key into the middle of the fob key, twist, and the fob key will split into two halves. Check, and you’d see that you now have access to the dead battery as soon as you remove the fob key cover.
3. Insert new CR2032 battery
Use the valet key to pop out the dead battery. Now replace the old battery with the new key fob battery. Ensure that you install the replacement battery with the positive side facing up. Place the battery underneath the prongs on the right side first and slightly press down the other part of the battery to fit in properly.
4. Reassemble, click fob key
Reassemble the fob key and press round lightly to click the fob key back together.

How to Replace a Honda Pilot Key Battery (2005 – 2015) – Physical Key Rounded Buttons

To change the battery in this fob key, you’ll need:
- a precision screwdriver set since the screw is very small on the back of the key.
- an original panasonic CR 1616 coin battery
Flip the key to the back and search for a screw. Use a small screwdriver to pry and remove the screw. You might have to press hard on the screw whether or not it’s your first time will determine how long it’d take you to screw out completely.
Set the screw aside. Now use a small flathead screwdriver to turn the notch at the side of the key. Keep twisting, and you’ll be able to pop off the back cover of the key fob.
The back cover houses the key fob battery, so departing the fob keg in halves will give you access to the old battery. Use a flat-head screwdriver to pop out the battery
Now install a new easy replacement battery with the positive side (note that the part with lettering is the positive side) facing down. Make sure to put the top part first because of the metal prongs in the battery hole. Then press down on the lower part of the battery so the battery can stay in place.
Return the fob key cover after replacing the old battery. Press round the key slightly to ensure a snug fit. Finally, screw in the small screw on the fob key.
You can now lock, unlock and start your car with ease!
